This week the Homeschool Village has asked, “Share your favorite book that has supported and encouraged you in your homeschooling adventure and why you’d recommend it to another homeschooler.”
Well, when we first started thinking about homeschooling 8 1/2 years ago, I do not recall reading any specific book about homeschooling. I do know we prayed to God and asked him to direct our path. While praying, we also studied God’s word asking him to show us through his scripture of what we should do. We wanted to make sure that it was what God wanted us to do and not some quick decision on our part. God also put into our path through church wonderful families who had been homeschooling for many years. I would write questions down and then the next time I saw them, I would ask questions over and over. It was such a blessing to be around encouraging and enthusiastic families who loved to homeschool and were willing to take time time to talk with us in-depth about what homeschooling was, what the laws were and the many different types of curriculum that is available.
We also went to the internet and started doing research. It was amazing at the many websites that we came across with information on homeschooling. One of the very first website that I came across was About.com:Homeschool. It has loads of information and also has links for many other websites that are focused on homeschooling.
So while I did not read any specific homeschooling books, there are a lot out there. My advice is to talk to veteran homeschoolers and see what they recommend. They have a wealth of knowledge and can get you started in the right direction.
Since this is a book review post, I would like to mention several books that people have mentioned to me that they have read and have enjoyed. Perhaps one of these books will speak to your heart.
