Congrats to the winners!
Last year, I started a link up for history and geography called, Wednesday’s Around the World. I am going to continue on with it this year. There has been a change in it for this year. Last year, I was using Bright Ideas Press, Mystery of History, curriculum and had limited the history link up just to Bright Ideas Press History and Geography. I am not using Mystery of History or All American History this year and will be using My Father’s World instead. So with that change, I am going to open up the link-up for all History and Geography curriculums.
The link up will still be taking place every Wednesday. The first link-up for the school year will be next Wednesday, September 4th. All you have to do is write a post about what you are learning in history and/or geography, then come to my page and link-up with that lesson. Did you do a project or activity for history that you would like to share? Write a post about it and link it up! Here are a couple of examples from last year, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego and Aesop’s Fables, Tortoise and the Hare.
The following week, I will share a little about what we have been studying in our history and geography and then will highlight a couple of those who have linked up!
To start us off for this year, I am having a giveaway! Actually, two giveaways! There is a $25 Amazon gift card and a $20 CurrClick gift card up for grabs! All I need you to do is leave me a comment telling me what history and/or geography curriculum you will be using this year. I will choose a winner on Sept. 4th and announce it at the beginning of the link-up!
We are using the 6th grade history from Veritas Press: 1815 – Present times.
We are using Expedition Earth for geography.
Thanks for the giveaway.
I am using Beautiful Feet for History and Little Passports for geography. I supplement that with LeapFrog Tag interactive maps and troops to the library for extra study.
This year I’ve ventured away from a history curriculum and am making my own as I go. We currently are studying famous explorers and then move on to early American history.
We are continuing with My Father’s World history. We are now in the ‘Exploration to 1850’ year. My son will also be doing ‘Mapping the World by Heart’ through our co-op. As much of a geography-buff he is, this is perfect for him!
We’re using Trail Guide to Learning: This year we’re finishing Paths of Exploration (we switched midway last year) and will start Paths of Settlement soon.
We are using a combination of Around the World in 180 Days, Galloping the Globe (for the younger ones) and Little Passport. I think it’s going to be fun!!
Mystery of History and Hands on Geography.
Curriculum? Um … No, really .. we are studying the states and presidents this year. So, I bought a lot of stuff from the Target Dollar Spot. I feel like it is extremely important that my kids know more about the way our country was founded and built. So, this year we are going to do a basic thing with a bit of history on the presidents and geography, and then next year we are going to go back to the basics of the country and look more at how and why things were done the way they are. We chose to do it this way because the kids are really into the presidents right now. 🙂
I am actually (and just now finding out) doing the same as Lena! We are starting with the Declaration of Independence, we were gifted a book about the presidents with flash cards, and are pulling out maps and flash cards of the States!
We will be using resources from the library mostly. Since we just relocated, we will be learning about the history of our new state and will incorporate some geography in there also. Hopefully, later this year we will purchase mystery of history.
We’re using Answers in Genesis: Ancient Civilizations and the Bible.
What great gifts! We are currently using America the Beautiful for our program.
We are also going to be studying 50 states and Presidents, as well as just reading a lot – fiction and non-fiction. I’m currently reading them into earlier and earlier times with stories of children and what their lives were like at different times in history. Right now we’re going through the Beverly Cleary books, when children’s main influence was their parents and neighbors, and kids played outside rather than watching tv ( which we’ve majorly cut) and played video games/ browsed the internet.
( I apologize for the weird spacing, my phone is misbehaving on this form for some reason.)
The kiddos use BJU Press curriculum in school for Heritage Studies, but at home we’re big into Virginia history right now. It’s spans so much time that we’ve decided to just take it period by period. We’re wrapping up Jamestown and early colonial right now and moving into Revolutionary history (because our crew is crazy about all things George Washington right now.) I’m tentatively planning to hit Presidential history next, then I know they’re ready to get into some Civil War history. We’re lucky to have field trips for just about every historic period right at our finger tips.
We are using Adventures in MFW, and Bob Jones the American Republic. Could TOTALLY use a gift card!
Congrats to Ticia ($25 amazon gift card) and Jennifer ($20 CurrClick gift card)!!
