In the Sunday School class that I take part in, we have been studying the book of James. I am so glad that I am in this class. The verses we covered this week really spoke to my heart. Especially verse nineteen. I need to listen, make sure what I say has meaning and does not anger others and if someone says something out of anger to me, to not respond in the same way. What do you think the scripture says to you? Please share! Happy iFellowship Day!
James 1:12-20
12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Joy, just wanted to say Hi and thank you so much for stopping by my blog and commenting about my children and their soap selling story! Have a blessed day!
Joy, I just read verse 20 the other day myself in my One Year Bible.
It really spoke to me! I struggle with yelling. I wouldn't say I have a quick temper – but potty training has really shortened my patience!
After reading this verse it hit me like a ton of bricks that this behavior – yelling – is not brining honor to the Lord or making me any more "righteous"!
What a lesson!
I love James!!! Tough lessons though – but so on target with my sanctification process!
Great thought, Joy! I also like the concept that "every good gift and every perfect gift is from above." It's easy to think that God has a part in bad things that happen when our choices are what we need to look at in that regard.
I love reading James. Yelling used to be one of my shortfalls, but praise God He convicted me. I still have times of yelling, but not as much as I used to have.
