Today the Homeschool Village is wanting us to talk about our kids and how we let them help in the kitchen. I am not for sure when we started letting our children help out in the kitchen. We have always tried to let them help regardless of what we are doing. The kids will set the table, get the cups and put ice in them. They also help clean off the table and put away things. This is something even a toddler can help with.
As for cooking, we start off with the basics. We let them help us get the ingredients, measure and mix the ingredients up. Something as easy as sugar cookies, you can let your children roll the dough out by themselves. They have a blast being able to use cookie cutters and placing the cookies on the baking sheet.
My oldest 2 can cook simple basic meals. It is nice on those nights when I do not feel like cooking, they will jump up and say they will do it.
It is also nice when your little ones want to help make you a birthday cake, like the one below. My youngest helped her daddy make the cake, plus the icing. She even picked out the cake decorations.
We were supposed to include a recipe and a picture of something that our children have helped with in the kitchen. While I don’t have the recipe, here is a picture of the cake.
Be sure to stop by the Homeschool Village and check out the other links today!
oh Joy – I love me some chocolate cake! Thanks so much for listing how you got it started with them in the kitchen. So many moms have said they just don't know where to start!
Thanks for linking up!

Good job, Joy! I have to admit that I don't always want to take the time to let my little ones help me, but it's always worth it!
