Lately, songs and music seem to be speaking to my heart and soul. We have been having VBS all week and last night while the kids were in music class, they sang, “Amazing Grace/ My Chains Are Gone” by Chris Tomlin.
Amazing Grace in itself is one outstanding song. Published by John Newton in 1779, it has been sung millions of times throughout the many years. To this day, every time I hear it and sing it, I get goose bumps on my skin and tears in my eyes. Then Chris Tomlin comes along and adds his part to it. Holy Cow!! Not that Amazing Grace needed any help to add the the powerful effect it has on people, this really just blew my heart away.
Truly amazing talent by two men 100’s of years apart. Both doing the same thing. Glorifying God.

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures
My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace
(sing twice)
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine
Take a few minutes and listen to the song. I mean, really listen to it.
God is definitely amazing.
God is definitely amazing.
New follower from FF..have a great weekend!
Thanks Joy for reminding me of the healing power in this hymn. I heard it first at my mother's church and I am blessed to have access to a recording as sung by her worship team.

It's been a tough week – ending with a tough post. I needed this message, this song, more than I can tell you. Thank you for being God's hands in my life today.
I love this song. I always tear up when I hear it because it is song that was sung by my cousin for my grandmother's funeral and he was going through his own tough times because that same month they found out he has cancer. So it is a very memorable song for me. Thank you for sharing it!
