iFellowship 1 Corinthians 7:1

iFellowship 1 Corinthians 7:1
iFellowship

Another beautiful iFellowship Day is here. I have chosen this day to share with you scripture that has touch my heart from the past week. In the past few weeks, I have been sharing scripture from 1 Peter. Our pastor has been preaching from 1 Peter and doing a marvelous job. This week though, I will be sharing from another New Testament book, 1 Corinthians. In fact, I read this scripture this morning as it was a devotion that I get on my phone. When I first read it, I literally gasped.

2 Corinthians 7:1

1 Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

Why do you ask that I gasped? The first thing that came to my mind when I read this is, I am abusing my body by what I put in my mouth. You see, I have a weight issue. I am about 70-80 pounds overweight. That isn’t good. Especially when I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis.  To me, this scripture could very well mean that I need to cleanse my body from the excessive weight that I am carrying.  However, there is more to the scripture than that.

I have done a little research (meaning asking my hubby!) and looked at a commentary, and have realized that at this particular time in the bible, they were meaning excessive indulgences.  This can also be applied to sins against the body, more generally, as well as sins of the mind (lust, covetousness, etc).
All of these are sins of idolatry, and were mostly a result of bringing pagan greek belief into the church.  This is in reference to1Corinthians 6:12- 1 Corinthians 8.

God’s word is so amazing!  I hope you have enjoyed the scripture I have shared with you today.  Be sure to stop by Seeds of Faith and enjoy the other blogs who have linked up.

Homeschool Postcards – State Tree or State Flower

Homeschool Postcards – State Tree or State Flower

I have enjoyed linking up with Stef over at Educating Layton for the Homeschool Postcards day. It has challenged me to find pictures or to take pictures of the different topics. Today’s topic, State Tree or Flower was a very hard one for me. My laptop has been out of commission for a couple of weeks now and I am having to borrow one. Which means all of my pictures are on my laptop. I have had to go dig through my Picasa Web Albums looking for pictures. This is where my pictures come from today. Pictures from Christmas and early Spring.

The state flower for North Carolina is actually a flowering tree. It is the Dogwood tree. Even though the majority of the ones you see are white, they can also come in shades of pink and red.

I took these pictures of a pink dogwood right down the road from us. It was so beautiful being in full bloom. We are hoping to get a couple of the trees to plant in our yard next year.

North Carolina has 2 different types of tree for its state tree. It has the Longleaf Pine tree (which I did not have a picture for) and the Christmas tree. The Christmas Tree is a Frasier Fir Christmas tree. We get one of these for Christmas every year. We go out to a Christmas Tree Farm every year and choose our own. This is a family tradition we have done since our oldest was just a baby.

This past year, we were invited to a private Christmas Tree Farm who just does wholesale to many states in the south. It is owned by a homeschooling family in our homeschool group. We had a blast that day! We are looking forward to going back this year.

Be sure to stop by Educating Layton and check out all the others who are linking up with Homeschool Postcards. It is so amazing at the neat little facts you can learn from others!

iFellowship 1 Peter 2:4-8

iFellowship 1 Peter 2:4-8
iFellowship

Welcome to iFellowship! As you may have noticed, I have post scripture from 1 Peter the last couple of weeks. Our pastor has been preaching and teaching us from 1 Peter. As usual, there have been powerful words that really have stuck with me.  If we do not have Jesus as our cornerstone, we will crumble and fall.  It is important that we always keep Jesus first in our lives!

1 Peter 2:4-8

4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,
5  you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6 For it stands in Scripture:

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

7 So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,”

8 and
“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”

They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

Blessings to you!
