The Little Moments

The Little Moments

Homeschooling can be challenging at times. I always worry I am not doing enough the kids. I worry about if they are really understanding the lessons that we do.

Then little moments pop up and confirms that I am doing the right thing. That how I am teaching them is working.

Like just a bit ago. My youngest who will be 5 on February 10th, wanted to play a game on my laptop. While I was out of the room, she spelled and typed all by herself star. She was looking for the game starfall.com. We have been working on writing our letters and spelling our name. It looks like she is ready for a little bit more spelling.

Yes, little moments like this really make a homeschooling momma proud. I am so happy that we are homeschooling our kids. I love seeing them do things like this for the first time.

3 in 30 – February, week 1

3 in 30 – February, week 1

The first week of February has come to a close.  Time to check in with the 3 in 30 group on my goals.

The first week of February has been a busy and challenging week.  It all started off with me having to take my oldest son to the doctor.  He was diagnosed with the flu and a sinus infection.  Having him home and really sick through my days off.  I was having to make sure to keep the younger kids away from him, trying to keep them from getting sick.  So far, we have been blessed and the younger kids, as well as my husband and I have not gotten sick.

Now on to my goals and how I have done this week.  We will start with my first one about blogging.  I was hoping to blog at least 3 different times.  I also didn’t want to count any link-ups as part of those posts.  As of today I have only blogged once, about homeschooling, on Wednesday.  While the week still isn’t over, this is still possible.  I will have to see what I can come up with that is fun and exciting to post about!

My next goal was to exercise 4 days a week.  I have recently started a walking dvd that I enjoy a lot.  This week, I have been able to walk 2 days with the dvd.  I am hoping to get my other two days in before the week is up.  This goal is definitely doable and I look forward to completing it.

The last goal I had made for myself was to clean and declutter one room a week.  While I have been cleaning because of a sick child, it hasn’t really been in any particular room.  I have just bee busy cleaning and disinfecting everything that my son has touched.  In some ways, I have been going through and sorting clothing as I have washed it.  So this goal was partly completed.  I still have plenty of time (on Saturday) to finish up a room.  I think it will be mine as well.  I have several boxes of clothing that need to be taken to the thrift store.

Overall, I didn’t do too bad on my goals this week considering I had a sick child with the flu.  I am really looking forward to see what I can accomplish during the rest of the weekend and next week.  I am pretty sure I will be able to do everything that I would like to, plus more.

How did you do on your goals this week?

Helpful Homeschooling Websites

Helpful Homeschooling Websites

It has been in my heart lately to share more on homeschooling. Since this is our 8th year of homeschooling, I have a few websites I use often every year. Perhaps the websites will be helpful to you. One good thing about them? They are free! I like free things and I am pretty sure you do too!

The first website that I am going to tell you about is Learning Page. I like this site for several reasons. The first is it has handwriting pages you can copy. You can choose what style of writing to print out. It has Zaner-Bloser, D’Nealian and Cursive. Learning Page also has themes. It has basic themes like time, money and numbers. It also has different ones for animals, the ocean and space. Learning Page also includes monthly sheets that has different themes for different holidays and special days of the month. They all come with fact files and fun worksheets. One of the things that also drew me to Learning Page is the books section. It is a series of books about a little boy named Tommy. The books comes with teacher’s notes, worksheets and fact files. You can print these books out and read them daily. My kids have had a blast with these little unit studies. Perhaps you and your children will too.

The next website that we have used often is Science Buddies. we go to this site every year when we start planning out science fair projects. Science Buddies has a section for teachers, parents and students. It has over a thousand of ideas for science projects. It will tell you what you need for the project as well as walk you through the project. Science Buddies even has a place where you can ask an expert about a project if you are having trouble. Science Buddies has a blog, a newsletter and a facebook page that will keep you up to date on any changes or new ideas that come out. So be sure to check this place out.

By no means have I received any compensation for talking about these 2 websites. They are just websites that I have come across in my homeschooling journey and has helped us with new little studies and ideas. Hopefully they will also benefit you in your homeschooling journey.

Blessings to you all!
