Hip Homeschool Hop and a Giveaway – 10/12

Hip Homeschool Hop and a Giveaway – 10/12
Our friends at Twenty 6 have donated a beautiful friendship bracelet for the giveaway this week.

Friends since 7th grade, Andrea and Rachel decided to start a blog/business together.  Thinking about their friendship of many years, they decided to call it Twenty 6.  This is based on the verse,

Proverbs 20:6
“Many can say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable?”

What is in their Esty Shop?
Andrea and Rachel have always been very “girly”! They love feminine and pretty things. Andrea has had fun exploring the world of “girl stuff” since she had Alaina in 2009.

They sell a variety of things that girls ages 1 to 99 will enjoy. You will find adorable handmade bows as well as personalized bow holders which are hand-painted by Andrea’s sister, Lisa Dickson
So how can you win a beautiful bracelet?

Homeschooling – Building A Bird Nest!

Homeschooling – Building A Bird Nest!

For science, I had planned on using the Sonlight Core K Science books for my 2 younger children. Instead of following their teacher edition, we have just been reading the books. I got really excited when I first saw that most of the books were from Usborne.  The first book we are reading is the Eggs and Chicks book. In the first couple of pages, it talks about how birds build their nests and showed several different types of nests. I thought it would be a neat project if they tried to build a nest.

First we read about how the birds built their nest.
We then collected grass, leaves and twigs.
Next, we did our best to make the base as round as we could by stacking twigs on each other.
We continued stacking it until we made a little hollow in the middle.
Once we finished our nest, we went on a little hike around our yard to see if we could find any nests already build by the professionals, the birds!  We found an old one in the birdhouse that just recently fell off  the tree it was on.
The second birdhouse we found was on our front porch.  It was in the corner next to our front door.
The kids noticed that the first birdhouse was made out of grass and pine needles.  The second nest was made out of grass and twigs and put together with mud/spit.  We had a lot of fun doing this little project and look forward to doing many more just like it!

2 Blogger Awards!

2 Blogger Awards!

What a surprise it was when Joelle from Homeschooling for His Glory and Deb from Living Montessori Now left me comments saying they had awarded me when bloggers awards!  It is always very special to be recognized from bloggers that you look up to.

Deb from Living Montessori Now has an awesome blog with a wealth of information for homeschoolers and for parents who enjoy teaching their children and would like to get an early start before they go to school.  She has give me the Wild About Your Blog Award.

I am supposed to pass this on to 25 blogs that I am WILD about. I though I would do this in combination with my the other blogging award I was given at the end of the post!

Speaking of which, the 2nd award I was given is the Sunshine Award.

Joelle from Homeschooling for His Glory so graciously gave me this award. Joelle is such a sweet person and I just love reading her blog about her and her family on their homeschooling journey.

For this award there are 3 things you must do.

1. Write a post about the award.

2. Thank and link back to the person who gave you the award.

3. Pass the award along to 12 bloggers (and let the bloggers know they have received the award by commenting on their blogs).

For me, this is the hardest part.  I read a lot of blogs that I just love.  Here are the 12 I have chosen in random order.
