Family Recipes – Moist Pound Cake

I grew up in a family who loved to cook. In fact, I still love to cook.  It didn’t have to be a family gathering or a holiday for something special to be cooked or baked in our house.  I learned to cook from my dad and my grandma and those are memories I will have with me forever.  What I remember most is not only did they like cooking for their family, they also loved cooking for others.  I can just see the faces of people as my dad would hand them a pound cake for their birthday or if they had not been feeling well.  They were always surprised and happy that someone had thought about them.

As I was cooking earlier for my family, I got to thinking about those special times and those special recipes.  Like my grandma and my dad, I enjoy cooking and baking for others as well.  There is just something special about sharing your love of cooking.  It is always a blessing to be able to share with others.

So I have decided that I would like to share some of those recipes with you all.  While I can’t bake and send it to everyone, I figure sharing the recipe and possibly a picture of the final result would be just as good.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  If you ever have any questions about one of the recipes that I post, just e-mail me and let me know!

The first recipe I am sharing is the Moist Pound Cake.  My daddy made this for many people for their birthday.  It was definitely one of his specialties.  Enjoy!!

Moist Pound Cake

2 sticks butter, softened
2 cups sugar
6 eggs (room temperature)
2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted 4 times)
1 TBSP vanilla extract

Preheat over to 300 degrees.  Grease and flour a bundt pan.  Cream butter and sugar until smooth.  Add 1 egg at a time, mixing well after each addition.  Add flour, beating until creamy.  Add vanilla and mix well.  Spoon into greased/floured bundt pan.  Bake at 300 degrees for 55 minutes.

Let me know if you bake this cake and if you liked it.  To dress the cake up for special occasions, you can always spoon strawberries over the top and add whip cream to it.  You could even add a scoop of ice cream and drizzle caramel sauce over it.  I have done both and it is very yummy.  However, I must say, my favorite way to eat the pound cake is warm right out of the oven.

Enjoy!
