so thankful and blessed… #1071-1080

Colossians 3:15-17

15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

God has blessed my family and I another week.  A week were we celebrated Thanksgiving.  However, I have been trying to celebrate Thanksgiving daily for a while now.  Daily, God continues to give and bless us.  Daily, I wake up to another beautiful day.  Yes, God has been so good to us.  The love, mercy and grace that he hands out daily, is amazing.  I don’t deserve it.  I am a sinner.  A sinner saved by the grace of God, that does not deserve anything.  Again, He gives over and over.  Yes, I am truly blessed.

1071. a week of beautiful and dry weather.

1072. the few extra minutes of time spent with my husband, as I take him to and from work.

1073. insurance to go to the chiropractor.

1074. older children to help with the younger children when I have a doctor appointment.

1075. husband job that allows him holidays off.

1076. a Thanksgiving day spent with my husband and children.

1077. family time spent together watching our favorite football teams.

1078. my daughter taking riding lessons.

1079. baking sugar cookies with my children.

1080. making more memories and traditions with my husband and children.

I would love for you to join in counting the many blessings that God gives. Stop by A Holy Experience and visit others who are also sharing their many blessings.

The Big Book of History ~ book review

The Big Book of History ~ book review

The Big Book of History is written by Laura Welch and published by New Leaf Publishing Group.

The Big Book of History is a 15 foot fold out time-line.  You can use it like a book and flip through the pages, or you can fold it completely out.  It is a time-line that covers from Creation to the time that it was published.  It as 4 different lines and each line represent 4 different events.  You have Biblical events, inventions, world events and civilizations and empires.

This time-line book isn’t just a bunch of dates on a line.  It has pictures and little comments through out the book to help explain the dates that are mentioned.  The biblical events listed are some of the major events that happened in the bible.  It also lists the major inventions, world events and civilizations/empires that have made a huge impact on our world.

The Big Book of History is colorful and very easy to follow.  You can keep it compact in a book shape or you can fold it out completely and hang on the wall.

Overall, the kids and I really liked the Big Book of History.  It has a lot of information that led to some great conversations.  The kids enjoyed folding out the book and comparing when events happened.   I see us using this often on our homeschool.  It is definitely a conversation piece with my children and I.

The World of Science – book review

The World of Science – book review

The World of Science is published by My Father’s World and Master Books.  Master Books is a division of New Leaf Publishing Group.

In this world, it is hard to find books that talk about and teach science from a Creation point of view.  New Leaf Publishing has published a book that does just that, The World of Science.

This book is hardcover and has 240+ pages with over 800 colored pictures in it.  It has 7 sections in the book; Matter and Chemicals, Energy, Motion and Machines, Electricity and Magnetism, Light and Sound,  Earth and Life, Space and time, with the final section being science experiments that you and your children can do together.

As I mentioned before, this book teaches science from a creation point of view.  However, it isn’t an apologetic’s book.  It just blatantly states that God created everything in the beginning of the book and I like that.  I also like how it includes the scientists that discovered certain things, for example, Benjamin Franklin discovering electricity.

The experiment section in the book has over 60 experiments that you can do.  A lot of the experiments use items that you can find right in your own home.  Which makes it a lot more fun and easier to do.  We have tried a couple of them ourselves and enjoyed doing them.

The World of Science book is one of our favorite science books to look through and read.  I find the kids looking at it often and checking to see if we do have the right items to do the experiments.  I highly recommend this book to families to read together.

Smack-Dab in the Middle of God’s Love ~ book review

Smack-Dab in the Middle of God’s Love ~ book review

by Brennan Manning and John Blase.

Smack-Dab in the Middle of God’s Love is a book about a middle age couple, Willie Juan and Ana, who live in a small Mexican Village.  They loved each other very much.  Most of all, they loved God.  Willie Juan and Ana, were unable to have children of their own, but they loved children dearly and always had a houseful of children from the village come to visit.

Willie Juan loved to ask the children questions and asked them one day, “Little friends, someday, when you are in Heaven, what do you think Abba will ask you?”  This got the kids to thinking and a couple of the kids had a couple of very good questions.

I liked this book a lot for a couple of reasons.  The main one is it is trying to show just how much God loves you.  Not only do they show it through the couples love of children, but also in the conversations they have with the children. It does it in a way that younger children can understand it.   Also, the illustrations in this book are beautiful.  Very colorful and eye catching.

Overall, this is a very sweet book.  My 6 year old and I loved reading it together.  It will be a book that we will read often together.

Here are a few more questions being answered about the Teach Them Diligently Conference.

What can I learn at the Teach Them Diligently Convention?
Teach Them Diligently understands that for many parents
homeschooling is not simply an academic exercise. We seek to renew what we
believe was the initial driving force for all Christian parents in
homeschooling – to disciple and equip their children to glorify God.

In addition to teaching techniques and the use of curriculum
taught at normal homeschool conventions, we will also have a large focus on missions,
discipleship and parenting. The general sessions and hundreds of workshops are
taught by experts in the field and parents in the trenches. Not sure how to
choose which workshops you want to attend? We offer several tracks including
getting started homeschooling, special needs, health & nutrition and
filmmaking to name a few.

How does Teach Them Diligently support missions?
The organizers of this convention are also officers of
Worldwide Tentmakers, a mission agency focused on tentmaking as a missions
strategy found in Acts 18. All of the profits from this convention go to
support missions around the world. Over the last 25 years, Worldwide Tentmakers
has placed hundreds of English-language teachers, engineers, lumber jacks,
carpenters, and even business owners in foreign countries by using a service or
skill.
Who will be there?

Attended by 7,000 homeschoolers in 2012, Teach Them Diligently is expanding in 2013 and will be at three locations in May – Spartanburg, SC; Nashville, TN; and Omaha, NE. Not only does Teach Them Diligently feature a large exhibit hall filled with vendors, and hundreds of workshops, but they also invite several of the best speakers in the homeschool community. Many attendees and vendors have said this is the best homeschool convention in the country. You will not want to miss Teach Them Diligently this year!
