The Homeschool Village’s Garden Challenge

The Homeschool Village’s Garden Challenge

”HSV

The Homeschool Village is having an awesome challenge. It is a garden challenge! Our family loves to garden and I wrote a lot about our garden last year. This year we are hoping to add just a couple more vegetables. Where we live at, we do not have much room. We plan on building a couple of garden boxes and will definitely have many large pots filled with plants.

So far, we have planted 36 tomato seeds, as well as onions, brussels sprouts, thyme and oregano. We also plan on planting cucumbers, bell peppers, squash, zucchini, beans and peas. I am sure by the time we are finished planting, there will be more veggies to add to the list.

The kids enjoy helping out with the garden. They have helped us plants the seeds and they also check daily to see if they need to be watered.

We have always loved having a garden. Besides having wonderful fresh veggies, it is an activity that we can do together as a family. I can’t wait to share the progress of our garden as it begins to grow!

Homeschool Mother’s Journal

Homeschool Mother’s Journal
The Homeschool Mother's Journal

I haven’t linked up with  Sue over at The Homeschool Chick, for the Homeschool Mother’s Journal in several weeks.  Life just got in the way and I didn’t make time to write in the journal.  So I am once again joining in.    Sue started this great link-up about what we do during our homeschool week.  Homeschool Mother’s journal is an awesome way of remembering how our week of homeschooling went.

In my life this week…

I have been doing my best to help my awesome husband with a messy task.  We have had septic tank issues and it has required a lot of digging.  I have also been helping a friend by watching her children.  They are awesome kids and get along wonderful with my children.  I have also been doing a lot of spring cleaning.  I am enjoying getting rid of the clutter in our home.

In our homeschool this week…
We have started our new math curriculum with the younger kids.  I have gone back to Bob Jones with Samuel and Claire.  They are loving the new math and it has definitely made school a lot easier with them.  It is so wonderful to see the kids so excited about doing math!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
The younger kids do not know it yet, but I will be taking them to the WNC Nature Center next week.  Actually, we will be going on my birthday, April 6th.  They have been asking to go back for a year or so.  My oldest daughter will be going next week with the 4-H group, so I thought I would tag along with the younger two kids.  I am actually excited about it as well.  I can’t wait to take some pictures to share with everyone!

My favorite thing this week was…
My favorite thing this week was the help from our neighbors and church family.  We are truly blessed with the friends we have made.  I am truly amazed of all of the offers of help when we had a difficult time.  Praising God daily for our family and friends.

What’s working/not working for us…
Right now, everything seems to be going pretty good.  I am still waiting for the Hooked on Phonics to arrive, but other than that, school is back on schedule and we are enjoying everything we do!

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…
We have been homeschooling for 8 years and we really love it.  It works for our family and has definitely brought us closer together.  I love my kids and really do enjoy having them home with me.

In my life this week…
This week I worked on The Case of the Missing Mountain book review.  I have also been reading 2 other books for book reviews and one book for a book club.  As you can tell, I love to read!  My youngest daughter celebrated her 5th birthday and wanted me to bake her a cake.  It was a chocolate pudding cake with chocolate icing.  I also had the pleasure of helping out a friend by watching her 2 children for her on Friday afternoon.  we then had a wonderful supper together.  I love being able to help others out and to cook for people.

In our homeschool this week…
We actually got a lot accomplished this week.  My oldest is moving right along in her studies and enjoyed working on the workbook, The Case of the Missing Mountain.  My youngest son is working on 2 digit addition.  My youngest daughter is working on telling time.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
While we didn’t go anywhere this week, we had friends to come over for a play date.

My favorite thing this week was…
Celebrating my daughter’s birthday was the highlight of the week.

What’s working/not working for us…
I will be looking for a math curriculum for my younger kids.  Previously, I have been using workbooks with them.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…
It is that time of the year that I start looking for new curriculum for the following  school year.  i am definitely thinking on making some changes for all 3 of my children next year.  My oldest will be in 8th grade, while the younger 2 will be in 2nd and 1st grade.  I have been looking at Tapestry of Grace as well as My Father’s World.  I know I still have plenty of time to prepare, but it will most likely take me several months to decide 100% of what we will use.

I want to share a picture of my children on the day we celebrated  my daughter’s 5th birthday.  Since my oldest is 18, taking college classes and working part time, it has been hard getting pictures with all of my children together.  🙂
