The Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, FL

The Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, FL

While we were in Florida, we went to St. Augustine, FL for a day.  Our 2 youngest children had never seen the Atlantic Ocean or any of the historical sites in St. Augustine.  One of the places that we wanted to take the kids was to the Castillo de San Marcos.   The Castillo de San Marco construction was started in 1672 making it one of the oldest standing structures in America.  The structure was completed in 1756.  The Castillo was built by the Spanish to protect their Empire.  During  the time the Castillo was being built, it changed flags 6 different times. The Castillo was also built using “Coquina”, a type of limestone made from shells and crushed shells.

This is an awesome place for a field trip.  I remember visiting it when I was in the 4th grade and now my children have also been able to visit it.  They have guided tours as well as short movies to help explain the history of the castle.  It is definitely a place we will go back to visit again.

L.E.N.S. Photo Challenge- ‘Fun in the Sun!’

L.E.N.S. Photo Challenge- ‘Fun in the Sun!’

This week, the L.E.N.S Photo Challenge is “Fun in the Sun!”  My picture this week is of my 2 youngest kids playing at Crescent Beach, Florida.  We took the kids there on Friday to see the Atlantic Ocean since our 2 youngest had never been to the beach before.  As you can see, they are loving it!  We enjoyed the day watching the kids play in the water.

Our 2 older children even helped the younger ones build a castle in the sand.  It was fun times by all that day!

Be sure to check out the other bloggers who linked up this week at Home Is Where You Start From.  You will not be disappointed in the pictures you see!

Sweet Shot Tuesday

Sweet Shot Tuesday
Life With My 3 Boybarians hosts Sweet Shot Tuesday. This week, I have chosen a picture of our youngest child. Of our 2 daughters, she is our girly girl. She loves to dress up in her Sunday best on a daily basis. She absolutely loves clothes and will change quite often during the day if you don’t catch her. Saturday, she put on this pretty green dress and decided she wanted to go outside and play. What does she play with? Her brothers dump truck! We have a slight hill right next to our house and they will climb up the hill, get in the truck and roll down. Even though she is our girly girl, she will get right in the dirt, next to her brother and dig right along with him regardless if she is wearing her shorts and t-shirt or her Sunday best!

Nature Study Tuesday

Nature Study Tuesday

Every week, Peace Creek on the Prairie has a Nature Study Tuesday link up. I thought I would join this week since the kids and I took these pictures on Saturday. While we were outside walking around, we notices a caterpillar and a spider on the same tree. The kids were pretty excited to watch them for a little bit. The caterpillar kept crawling up the tree while the spider was unsure what to do. It just sat there on the leaf watching us! It is amazing what you can find outside of your home if you just take the time to look. We enjoy going for a walk around the house and down the road that we live on. We see something new every time. Have you seen anything interesting in nature lately?
