Exploring The World of Astronomy

Exploring The World of Astronomy

It is such a blessing being part of the Moms of Master Books review team.  The book that I get to share with you this time is, Exploring The World of Astronomy.

Exploring The World of Astronomy is just one book, in a series of science books, written by John Hudson Tiner.  In this book, Mr. Tiner will help you discover many details about the amazing planets, stars and space that God created for us.

In the Exploring The World of Astronomy book, there are graphs, charts, explore more sections and chapter reviews in the 13 Chapters and 173 pages of this book.  This is a paperback book

There are a few ways that you can use this book, to help your children understand about the world that God created.  Elementary students can use this book with help from the parents.  Together, you can sit down, read over the sections in the chapters and then discuss the questions at the end of the chapter.

My younger kids and I took just a couple of pages at a time.  By taking it slow, we were able to look at words they did not recognize and find their meanings.  My kids always surprise me, by being able to remember more than what I give them credit for.

I feel like this book is really geared toward the older elementary/middle school student.  This age group could definitely use this book, on their own and be able to comprehend what they are reading.  They would also be able to read and answer the questions, by themselves.  This astronomy book for also make for a great refresher course for the high school student.  The Explore More sections in the book would give the older students a chance to delve a little deeper into the subjects they are reading.

My oldest daughter, who is 16, enjoyed reading this book, just for fun.  She liked the couple of pages in the back of the book that gave extra questions, she could research.

While we liked Exploring The World of Astronomy’s content, there were a couple of things that I did not like about the book.  The first thing that I do not like, it is a soft cover book.  The majority of books that I have gotten from Master Books, they have been hardback and are very sturdy, this one is not.  The other thing that I have always loved about Master Books books, are they are always so beautiful and full of color.  This book is just black and white.  I would have loved to of seen all of the space and planet pictures in full color.

Is this a book I would recommend to someone wanting to learn more about Astronomy?  Absolutely.  The information inside of the book is worth it!  If your family is a science loving family, I think you will enjoy this book as much as we have!

N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises ~ review

N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises ~ review

I am so excited about N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises.  This book is by Ken and Mally Ham.  I have heard so much about Ken Ham, and what he believes, but have never read any of his books before.  I was not disappointed in this book and I really think you will like it a lot, as well.

Details on the N is for Noah

N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises is a hard back, spiral bound easel book that is 10×10 3/4 in size.  The book is well made and the pages are very sturdy and thick, making it very easy for children to look through on their own.  There are 112 pages of beautiful illustrations that are done by Jeff Albrecht.  The illustrations are bright and vibrant, catching your attention right from the start. Along with the beautiful pages, is a rhyming story that takes your from A-Z about the story of Noah and the Ark. Not only does this book teach your children about trusting God and His promises, it talks about why God sent a world wide flood, how people acted towards Noah while he was building the Ark and what happened when the flood ended.

Not only does this book tell the story of Noah and the Ark in a fun way that the kids will enjoy and understand, it also has structured learning for the kids.  Your kids will be encouraged with Biblical concepts and verses.  This book is shaped in an easel-book format.  On one side is a picture and a rhyming sentence for the child to see), on the other side (for the parent/teacher), you have the rhyming sentence, starting point, Bible bits, Let’s Talk, Always Remember, Stuff to Do and a Quick Review sections for you to read and engage the child with.  In the back of the book, there are sections that help you break down the  “letters” even more.  You have the Overview,  Directed Discussions, Core Truth Takeaway and Quick Review Activity. You can even find downloadable coloring pages for this story at www.nlpg.com/nisfornoah_clrpgs.

My Thoughts On This

While this book is geared towards younger children, I think it is a great read for families.  My kids are 7, 9 and 15 and they all enjoyed it.  Yes, even the 15 year old got something out of it as well.  They liked how they took each letter in the alphabet and rhymed the story.  They loved the illustrations that corresponded with the lessons.  Most of all, I loved that I was able to read the story to the kids and all of us understand a little better about the story of Noah and the Ark.

I also think this book would be great for any Sunday School, Homeschool Co-op class or a family to do during the evenings.   You have little mini lessons on each page that you read.  You could do a page or a couple of pages a day and have a great discussion with your children.

Don’t forget about the Book and Treat Facebook Party coming up tomorrow night, August 27th, 2013.  We will be having it on the Master Books Facebook Page at 8:00pm CDT.  The Treat is Sight and Sound Theaters.  They will be giving out a copy of their show “Noah” to one person.  Other gifts will also be given away.  I hope to see you there!!

Big Book of Earth & Sky review

Big Book of Earth & Sky review

The Big Book of Earth and Sky is a 15ft chart book that is written by Bodie Hodge and Dr. Carolyn Reeves and published by New Leaf Publishing.  This book shows and explains about the Earth and the Sky from the Outer Atmosphere all the way to the Inner Core of the Earth, from a creation point of view.  The book is specified for ages 7-12.  However, I think a younger child would enjoy it, if a parent was reading the information to the child.  The illustrations are very colorful and draws you in to the book.

There are several ways you can use the Big Book of Earth and Sky.  You can read it as a chart as you fold it out, panel by panel.  You can use it is a resource tool.  You can use it as a spring board (along with the Teacher’s Guide), to learn about different topics from the Earth’s Atmosphere to the layers of the Earth.   This book would be a great start to use for a unit study, using the Teacher’s Guide.

The Big Book of Earth and Sky has detailed charts and graphs about the earth’s crust, caves and clouds.  You can read all sorts of facts about the mountains and the weather.  You can explore the oceans and read about deep-sea diving records.  You can read about the water cycle, mountain zones and volcanoes.  The amount of information packed into this book is amazing.

Our family is a science loving family.  We love learning all about God’s creation, how things are made and how they work.   This book does not let us down in any way.  It  talkes about many things of the Earth and Sky.  It gives a lot of pictures showing different parts of the earth, explaining how things work and how things are formed.  We have looked at this book almost daily since we have received it and have learned something new every time we have looked at it.  We highly recommend this book!  We think that Mr. Bodie Hodge and Dr. Carolyn Reeves did an amazing job putting together this book.

Chronicles of Dinosauria review

Chronicles of Dinosauria review

The Chronicles of Dinosauria is written by Dave Woetzel, illustrated by Richard Dobbs and published by New Leaf Publishing.

Chronicles of Dinosauria is this amazing book by Dave Woetzel that talks about the history of Dinosaurs and Man.  In this beautifully illustrated book, Dave Woetzel covers the Creation and the Dinosaurs, the Flood and the Dinosaurs, Fossil Evidence , the Historical Evidence, Artistic Evidence, Cryptozoology Evidence and Biblical Evidence of Dinosaurs and Man.

In this book, the author addresses one of the big questions that a lot of people have.  Did man and Dinosaur live at the same time?  Mr. Woetzel does a wonderful job of explaining and giving scientific evidence how man and dinosaur lived together. (Yes, I believe that man and dinosaur lived together.)

How did Dave Woetzel come to this conclusion?  He traveled around the world finding artifacts and talking to people.  In this books, he shares his own personal pictures and other papers, drawings and information that he came across during the search.

Between all of the information that Mr. Woetzel used to write this book and the amazing drawings that Mr. Richard Dobbs created to go along with the work, this book is put together wonderfully and answers many questions that one might have regarding how man and dinosaur lived together and what happened to the dinosaurs.

My kids and I have really enjoyed reading this book.  We definitely recommend it to others who want to learn more about man and dinosaurs living together.
