Decorating the Christmas tree

Decorating the Christmas tree

I shared with you yesterday about one of our traditions that we do every year, searching for the perfect Christmas tree. Another tradition is letting the kids decorate the tree, all by themselves.

Many years ago, when our two older children were young, we would always put the lights on the tree during the evening time and then wake up the following morning and decorate. One Christmas, when the hubby and I woke up, they surprised us by having it decorated. That turned into a tradition and they haven’t missed a year since.

This past Saturday, we went and picked out the perfect tree. We didn’t get the lights on it, since hubby had to figure out a way to fix the tree stand that happened to be missing a part. The following evening, we told the kids we would get the lights on so they could decorate. It never fails, only half the lights worked. So we had to make a quick run to the store for more lights.

Dad and sons made quick work of getting the lights on the tree.
I turned the Christmas music up!
Then the kids got busy hanging ornaments!

The older kids were having as much fun as the younger kids!
Sarah putting hooks on the ornaments.  I need to find a new way to store them this year!  A lot of the ornaments were made by the kids from past years.
The kids being goofy, as usual!
I loved this picture of Claire looking at the finished tree.
Do you let the kids take the lead on decorating for Christmas?

Christmas Tree Is Decorated!

Christmas Tree Is Decorated!

Buddy and I got the lights on this morning. We didn’t have too much trouble with the lights. Only a few wouldn’t work, however, we covered those up with lights that did!

This angel topper is about 16 years old. We got it when our oldest was 1. Amazing how it has survived all these years. I always feel like we have an angel from heaven watching over us with her on top of the tree.

Once we got the lights and the angel on the tree, we had to run to town to pick up a few things. When we got back, the kids surprised us and had the tree decorated. They did an awesome job. I truly love our Christmas tree with year.
I do believe we have a perfect tree this year!

Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree

We went to get our Christmas tree today. A family in our homeschool group owns a Christmas tree farm and invited our group up to get a tree. We were so excited! Our oldest child could not be with us since he had to work and we did miss him not being with us. However, the 3 younger kids had a blast. I must say that I did too. I enjoyed watching the kids walk amongst all the trees asking, “what about this one?”

We finally chose the perfect one for our family and headed on back home. We have it up in the stand and will put the lights on in a bit. We took a break, made some hot chocolate and now are watching The Polar Express. Which is another tradition in our family, to watch a Christmas movie.

We normally don’t decorate the tree until morning and the kids will do that. We will make a huge breakfast and just spend some family time together.

This is just a few of our traditions. Do you have any? Does your family get a Christmas tree? Do you have any Christmas traditions? I can’t wait to hear them!
