Outstanding Blogger Award!

Colleen over at Adventures of a Small Town Girl gave me a blog award! I was definitely surprised and honored that she thought of me. What is fun, is that I can give this award away to others also! The giving just keeps on going! So, thank you Colleen for the Outstanding Blogger Award!

Here’s what I have to do now:

1. Say thanks to the person who gave me this award. So, thank you Colleen!!

2. Share 7 things about myself.
I LOVE to read!
I am afraid of heights.
I am the leader of a homeschool support group.
I have been married almost 18 years.
I hate to disappoint people.
I would love to own my own books store one day.
I love listening to George Strait music.

3. Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who I have recently discovered and think are great!

Kittens

Kittens

You just never can tell what you will come home to. Yesterday morning, after taking my husband to work, I came home and went straight to our porch to check on our tomato plants. Walking up the steps, I see 4 little kittens all curled up on the ottoman sleeping. I turned around, walked to our back door and on the top step was the momma cat.

What is odd with this? We do not own any cats! I asked our neighbors if they were missing a cat with kittens and of course no one would claim them. We are not in a very good place to be able to keep the cats and the cats can not live in our house due to my husband being allergic to them.

I was hoping that the momma cat was just in the process of moving the kittens and we just happen to be the halfway point between homes. However, we woke up this morning and the kittens were still on the porch. Cute kittens, but we just can’t keep them.

So I called a place that has volunteers that will take in animals until they are adopted. I had to leave a message and I still haven’t heard back from anyone. I will call them again to see if someone can come to get the kittens.

While we wait, it is getting harder to keep the kids away. They want to go see, talk and hold the little kittens. I am praying they don’t get too attached. I decided to take a few pictures of the kittens so the kids could remember them by.

Needless to say, it has been an interesting couple of days for us!

Homeschool Village – week 2

Homeschool Village – week 2

The question for today is:

What do you, the homeschool mom, do to get refreshed and ready for the upcoming school year?

I know I am excited to read what other homeschool moms do, but for me I start out by taking some time off from school. No school work for the kids, no textbooks, nothing. I take the kids to the park, they play with others while I sit and talk with moms. We just have a nice relaxing time and enjoy ourselves.

I will eventually start looking for curriculum for the next year. (usually I start that before we even end with what we are using at that time) I pray and ask God to help lead me in the right choice of curriculum for all of my children. I ask myself how did things go in the past year and do I need to change anything. I order as many homeschooling catalogs as I can and I search like crazy on the internet reading reviews of curriculum available.
I also like to talk with veteran homeschoolers to get their advice and opinion on different curriculum. Veteran homeschoolers always have a wealth of information that they are willing to share. Again, I pray and ask God to help me plan what He would have me teach and how to teach the kids.

I will then order my curriculum as I feel at peace with it and then take time during the evening after the kids are in bed asleep to look through it and make plans.

By this time, I am excited and ready to get the school year started!

Since last week was the first week of Homeschool Village, I came across some great homeschool bloggers. One was Sue at The Homeschool Chick. Awesome lady! Be sure to check her out as well as others who post to Homeschool Village!
