Homeschool Village – week 2

Homeschool Village – week 2

The question for today is:

What do you, the homeschool mom, do to get refreshed and ready for the upcoming school year?

I know I am excited to read what other homeschool moms do, but for me I start out by taking some time off from school. No school work for the kids, no textbooks, nothing. I take the kids to the park, they play with others while I sit and talk with moms. We just have a nice relaxing time and enjoy ourselves.

I will eventually start looking for curriculum for the next year. (usually I start that before we even end with what we are using at that time) I pray and ask God to help lead me in the right choice of curriculum for all of my children. I ask myself how did things go in the past year and do I need to change anything. I order as many homeschooling catalogs as I can and I search like crazy on the internet reading reviews of curriculum available.
I also like to talk with veteran homeschoolers to get their advice and opinion on different curriculum. Veteran homeschoolers always have a wealth of information that they are willing to share. Again, I pray and ask God to help me plan what He would have me teach and how to teach the kids.

I will then order my curriculum as I feel at peace with it and then take time during the evening after the kids are in bed asleep to look through it and make plans.

By this time, I am excited and ready to get the school year started!

Since last week was the first week of Homeschool Village, I came across some great homeschool bloggers. One was Sue at The Homeschool Chick. Awesome lady! Be sure to check her out as well as others who post to Homeschool Village!

Kids and Cups….

Kids and Cups….

Here is an idea for some summer fun. If you have any extra plastic cups around, give them to the kids. My kids LOVE to build “castles” with them. Not only does my 4 and 5 year old love to play with them, my 12 year old will also get in the floor and play with the kids.

They have races who can build the tallest and who can build a castle the fastest.

There is nothing better than watching your kids play and have fun together.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook

The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Outside my window…I see the day the Lord has given me.

I am thinking…of how blessed I am.

I am thankful for…for my family who loves me unconditionally.

From the kitchen…a floor that needs sweeping and mopping.

I am wearing…shorts and a t-shirt.

I am creating…a to-do list.

I am going…to take a few moments and read a book.

I am reading…from the book of John this week.

I am hoping…to be a good example to my children.

I am hearing…the hum of the fan.

Around the house…there are corners that need dusting.

One of my favorite things…is to see my children happy

A few plans for the rest of the week: getting the house ready for visitors and a trip to the park with the kids.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…Freedom is not free, so please thank a Veteran.

This is hosted by The Simple Woman. Be sure to check her out as well as others who have linked up with her this month.
