Weekly Weigh-In

I had a very busy week last week and didn’t keep track of things like I should have. I didn’t drink my water and I didn’t make time to exercise. Other than being busy and not taking the time to do any of the above, it showed on the scales. I gained 2 lbs. No since in making excuses because I don’t have any, other than just not taking the time to do it.

What do I do now? I get back on the bandwagon and keep track daily of what I eat. I fill my water cup first thing of the morning and start drinking my water. I make time to exercise. Whether it is walking up/down my road, going to the park with the kids or riding the stationary bike in my basement. I need to move regardless of what it is.

I really have no excuse. I can do this. It is just a matter of wanting to do it and I *want* to do this. So expect different results next Monday!!

Used Curriculum Fairs

Used curriculum fairs can be awesome to a homeschooling parent. If you are not sure what you want to use when you are homeschooling, you can go look at all the different varieties that many homeschool families have used. If you see something you like, you can usually purchase it for a much cheaper price than what it is brand new. You can also talk with experienced homeschool moms and get their advice and opinions on how the curriculum worked for them and their children.

The past few weeks, I have been browsing different homeschool curriculum catalogs looking for ideas for this next year. I will be homeschooling 3 children in 3 different grades. However, I have been looking at ways to combine Samuel and Claire’s schooling since they are only 18 months apart. They can do many of the same subjects together. The curriculum that I kept going back to over and over was Sonlight. This is an awesome curriculum, however, it is very expensive. I kept looking Sonlight Core K. I would be able to adapt this curriculum for both of Samuel and Claire’s needs. However, that price kept jumping out at me and I just kept thinking there was no way on earth we would be able to afford that.

Last night, as I was browsing a used curriculum sale, Charlotte (homeschool mom I rode with) came across the basic Sonlight K package. This included the Teacher’s guide, and the readers for the History section. The lady had it marked for $25. I could not believe it!! I had been praying for God to make a way to get this and here it was for a reasonable price!

Not only did the same lady have the Sonlight curriculum that I had been looking at, she had Saxon Phonics grades 1 and 2 (minus the consumable workbooks), for $5 each. I was so excited. At one place, I was able to get most of what Samuel and Claire needed for next year for less than $50.

The homeschool mom took time to talk with me about each curriculum and told me how it worked with her children. She told me the pros and cons that she had with the curriculum and also told me what all I would need to get to finish buying to go along with what I was purchasing.

This was definitely an answer to a prayer. I am so thankful that I went and was able to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time.

When I got home last night with my box of goodies, Samuel and Claire were so excited about what I found for them. Claire even went as far to go get her folder that we have been using this year and said at 9:00pm last night that she was ready to do school!

By Claire and Samuel’s reaction, I know that I have chosen the right curriculum for them. I also know that I found this curriculum by lifting up in prayer to God what my desire was for my children and he lead Charlotte and myself to that table.

I also have in mind what I would like to use with Sarah next year and did not see anything at the used curriculum fair for her. We have several more used curriculum sales coming up in the next couple of months. My advice is to pray about what God would like for you to teach your children and then make a list. Do a search for used curriculum sales in your surrounding areas. Take the time and go. I am sure you will be able to find what you are looking for just like I did!

Thank you Charlotte for taking me with you!! I had a blast and look forward to going with you again!

Weekly Weigh-In

It is that time once again. My weekly weigh-in. While I did not do as well as last weeks lost (5 lbs.) I did lose this week. I lost 1/2 lb. I am happy with that considering that we had family visiting and ate out quite a bit. I also noticed that I did not exercise or walk as much as what I did the previous week.

Since I started this back in February, I am down 22 lbs. I think that is pretty awesome! I am going to continue on this path no matter what. I know I feel better every day while getting this weight off of me.

My goals for this coming week are to keep track of my calories, as well as the fat, carbohydrates and protein that I eat. I will also keep my water intake up to around 100 ounces a day. My goal for exercising is to at least do some kind of cardio for 20-30 minutes 3-4 days a week. I am also going to try and add some toning in this week too.

Looking forward to another great week!!

School…

Today is another typical day of school for us. We all get up and get breakfast. We do not usually do anything special for breakfast. We will have cereal, or eggs and toast. Some mornings though, I will cook pancakes. However, today was a cereal kind of day.

Then we got right to doing our school work. I am very thankful and blessed, for the most part, to have kids who will do school work without argument. Sarah got her History book out and started reading the required chapters. Once she finished her History, she then moved on to her Math. She doesn’t like to do Math, however, since I have changed her Math curriculum, we do not have near as much trouble doing it daily as what we did. For this, I am very thankful for. Sarah is now working on her Science and English. Since she has to write a paper on a disease, I am going to include this as an English grade also. She is doing the report on Malaria. She loves to do research for a paper and I am glad this will be an easy paper for her to write.

I found this awesome website that I have been using with Samuel and Claire. It is www.learningpage.com. It has worksheets up to grade level 3 that you can use with your kids. There are so many different types of lessons that you can learn about. They have sections on the Ocean, Zoo Animals, Space, Dinosaurs, Reptiles/Amphibians and Space. I usually print anywhere from 5-6 pages a day for Samuel and Claire. They LOVE this. I also print out a handwriting sheet from Kid Zone. Kid zone is another website that has a lot of awesome crafts and pages you can do with your kids.

Overall, today has been a good day for getting school work accomplished. We are now having lunch and will be starting on housework soon. It is a cool day and looks like it will be raining soon. So we will definitely be spending the day indoors.

Have a blessed day!
