I missed last week linking up with The Homeschool Mother’s Journal.  Honestly I can’t remember why I even missed it.  I just didn’t think about writing about her week.  I enjoy doing this though.  It gives me a good look at our week about what all we have accomplished or did not accomplish.  Stop by iHomeschool Network and see all the others who have linked up!

  • In my life this week…

    I had a pretty full week this past week.  Started off the week by taking the kids to the Denver Zoo. (post will be coming soon).  On Tuesday, we found where we needed to vote. While I am disappointed in the way the election turned out, I know God is still in control and as long as we keep our eyes on him, God will take care of our family.  I am also helping with social media for the Teaching Creation Thursdays at Creation Conversations.

  • In our homeschool this week…

    We had a great week in schooling.  My youngest son finished his math workbook and has started the next grade level.  We are learning a lot in MOH and did a cool project in our Apologia Astronomy book. (Post on that coming soon).  My oldest is participating in the NaNoWriMo project for the month of November.  The younger kids are doing great with their reading.  I am very pleased with how our school year is going.  I feel like we are accomplishing a lot.

  • Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

    Do not be afraid to ask for help.  I have a hard time with that one, but there are some days that I just have to ask for help.

  • I am inspired by…

    I love this question.  Since I have begin blogging, I have had so many ladies to inspire me not only with blogging, but with homeschool and even with my faith.  One of those ladies is Rebecca from Mom’s Mustard Seeds.  She is a sweetheart and a true woman of God.  While I have never met her in real life, I feel like I have known her forever.  I can’t wait until I am able to hug her neck.

  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

    We went to the Denver Zoo and plan on going back to the Zoo free day on November 16th.

  • My favorite thing this week was…

    I had several favorite things this week.  The zoo trip was definitely a highlight.  I also got a new pair of boots!  Getting back to my country roots!

  • What’s working/not working for us…

    I am extremely happy with our curriculum.  We are using Illuminations this year with Mystery of History, WonderMaps and Hands On Geography.  We are also very happy with the Apologia Science curriculum we are using.

  • Things I’m working on…

  •  I love helping and encouraging homeschool moms with their homeschool journey and their faith.   I was recently asked to help out with the Teaching Creation Thursday at Creation Conversations.  I would love for you to join us!

  • I’m grateful for…

    I am grateful for my husband’s job that he has at Colorado School of Mines.  It is the reason why we made the cross country move and I know God provided it for him.

  • I’m praying for…

    I am praying for our nation.  I am concerned about the future of our nation with the re-election of the President.  I am also praying for the other leaders that are in office.  I just keep telling myself that God is in control and as long as our family keeps our eyes on Him we will be okay.

  • A photo to share…

    We went on a field trip to the Denver Zoo this past Monday. Our neighbor who homeschools her boy, went with us.  We had an amazing time!  We can’t wait to go back!

so thankful and blessed…

so thankful and blessed…

I just love this time of the week.  Another week full of blessings has passed us by.   I love thinking about all that God has done for my family and I.  Every day, no matter what type of day we have had, I can always think of something that God has blessed us with.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always, 

17 pray without ceasing, 

18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1031.  Being able to go to a Symphony.

Snow Day!

Snow Day!

Union Ridge Park

This was the 2nd snow of the season.  We woke up to 4-5 inches of snow on Thursday morning.  The kids were so excited!  Since we didn’t take a snow day on the first snow (only about 1-2 inches), I decided we would have one today.  The first thing the kids wanted to do when they got out of bed was go outside and play.  Then the hunt was on to find all of our snow clothes!

We are very blessed to live in an apartment complex that has a park right across from us.   One of the joys of homeschooling is having a park all to ourselves!

The kids had fun throwing snowballs at each other.  They asked to take the sled, but I said no.  I may have to say yes to that next time!

The youngest may be small, but she sure did give the older two a few good shots to the body!

We loved walking around the park and looking at the snow on the tree branches.  It was so beautiful outside today.

While it was beautiful, it was also very cold!

Our family loves the cooler weather and especially love the snow.

a celebration of life ~ happy birthday, daughter!

a celebration of life ~ happy birthday, daughter!

Today, we are celebrating life. Celebrating the birthday of our 2nd child, our oldest daughter. We are celebrating Sarah’s 15th birthday.

Sarah loves Jesus and her family.  She is very artsy and creative.  She loves to draw and is very good at it.  she loves to dance and take part in musical theater.  She is also enjoying the riding lessons and taking care of the horses.

Sarah is a joy to be around and is always making us laugh with her different accents and impressions.  She has asked to be homeschooled through high school.  She is already looking at Art schools to attend.

Sarah never asks for much.  For her birthday, she asked me to make her a Tiramisu (recipe to come later)  instead of a birthday cake.  She also asked for roasted pork loin, mashed potatoes and green beans.

She is always thinking of others and putting others before herself.  She loves her siblings dearly and is always doing something for them.  Sarah is a blessing to me and helps me keep the house in order and running smoothly on a daily basis.  We are truly blessed having her as a daughter.

Lego’s and Homeschooling

Lego’s and Homeschooling

Some see Lego’s as toys for kids. While it is considered a toy, I also think you can use it for part of your schooling. There is just so much a child can do with legos.

They can separate the Lego”s by size, color and shapes.

When putting the Lego sets together, the child follows directions of the set.

Playing with the sets can spark imagination and creativity.  You can even let the kids build projects for schooling of what they have read about.  There really is so much you can do with Lego’s for schooling.

We love playing with Lego’s in our house.  My oldest two have been playing with Lego’s for years. Now my younger two children are getting into it.  Yes, they do hurt when you step on them, but I think the learning possibilities outweigh the pain. 😉
