my favorite Master Books titles from the year…

my favorite Master Books titles from the year…

I have had a wonderful time being part of the Moms of Master Books team, this year.  I though I would share my favorite Master Books titles from the year with you.  Here they are in in no particular order.

1.  The first one I am sharing with you, is the book I am Ruth.  I loved the story of Ruth to begin with, but this book, just made me fall in love with the story even more.  The photography, combined with the scripture and story, really brought the story of Ruth to life.

2.  Children’s Atlas of God’s World is another favorite of ours.  This book takes you through all 7 continents and gives little information about different countries throughout the world. You will learn about the different cultures, animals and plants that God has created. My kids will sit and read this book for hours.  They love all the maps and pictures that are in it.

3.  Another book we have enjoyed is the Big Book of Earth and Sky.  This book shows and explains about the Earth and the Sky from the Outer Atmosphere all the way to the Inner Core of the Earth, from a creation point of view.

4.  Our family loves science and we enjoy any book on God’s creation.  That’s why my kids and I have really enjoyed Exploring The World of Astronomy.  Astronomy has always been a favorite subject of ours and any time we have a chance to read a book that talks about how God created the world, we love reading it.

5.  The last book I am sharing with you is N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises. While this book is geared towards younger kids, my 7 and 9 year old loved it.  They loved the way the the book was written using the letters of the alphabet, telling the story of Noah. They loved that it rhymed! It made the book fun for them to read.

I am very thankful to be a part of the Moms of Master Books group.  We have had the honor of reviewing wonderful Christian books.  I am looking forward to sharing more books from Master Books, next year!

Be sure to check out the link-up page at Master Books, to see what other’s are sharing as their favorite books of the year!

Exploring The World of Astronomy

Exploring The World of Astronomy

It is such a blessing being part of the Moms of Master Books review team.  The book that I get to share with you this time is, Exploring The World of Astronomy.

Exploring The World of Astronomy is just one book, in a series of science books, written by John Hudson Tiner.  In this book, Mr. Tiner will help you discover many details about the amazing planets, stars and space that God created for us.

In the Exploring The World of Astronomy book, there are graphs, charts, explore more sections and chapter reviews in the 13 Chapters and 173 pages of this book.  This is a paperback book

There are a few ways that you can use this book, to help your children understand about the world that God created.  Elementary students can use this book with help from the parents.  Together, you can sit down, read over the sections in the chapters and then discuss the questions at the end of the chapter.

My younger kids and I took just a couple of pages at a time.  By taking it slow, we were able to look at words they did not recognize and find their meanings.  My kids always surprise me, by being able to remember more than what I give them credit for.

I feel like this book is really geared toward the older elementary/middle school student.  This age group could definitely use this book, on their own and be able to comprehend what they are reading.  They would also be able to read and answer the questions, by themselves.  This astronomy book for also make for a great refresher course for the high school student.  The Explore More sections in the book would give the older students a chance to delve a little deeper into the subjects they are reading.

My oldest daughter, who is 16, enjoyed reading this book, just for fun.  She liked the couple of pages in the back of the book that gave extra questions, she could research.

While we liked Exploring The World of Astronomy’s content, there were a couple of things that I did not like about the book.  The first thing that I do not like, it is a soft cover book.  The majority of books that I have gotten from Master Books, they have been hardback and are very sturdy, this one is not.  The other thing that I have always loved about Master Books books, are they are always so beautiful and full of color.  This book is just black and white.  I would have loved to of seen all of the space and planet pictures in full color.

Is this a book I would recommend to someone wanting to learn more about Astronomy?  Absolutely.  The information inside of the book is worth it!  If your family is a science loving family, I think you will enjoy this book as much as we have!

I am Ruth ~ review

I am Ruth ~ review

If you were to ask me what my favorite bible story is, I would have to say Ruth.  Leaving her homeland, marrying and then losing her husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law and then staying with Naomi, it is a story of love and faithfulness.  The commitment that she makes to her mother-in-law, to stay with her and to serve her God, shows courage and strength.  So, when they asked if we would like to review the book, I am Ruth, I counted down the days until it arrived.

As the front of the books says, it is a story of Loss, Love and Redemption and it is one that I enjoy reading over and over. I am Ruth is a beautiful book that has been published by New Leaf Publishing Group.  The author Brenda Duff shares the whole book of Ruth from the bible throughout this book.  In between the scripture she weaves words that bring the story to life.  This book truly takes you back to the time of Ruth.

Another amazing element of the book is the photography by Kenneth Berg.  The pictures that he took, really bring the story of Ruth alive.  They capture the beauty, the love, the loss and yes, the redemption of those in, I am Ruth.  The pictures I am sharing, that I took of the book, just does not do it justice.  I am truly having a hard time describing the beauty, the accuracy that the pictures bring to this book.  They really will take your breath away.

Since I have told you how much I love this book, let me tell you a little more about the details of the book.  I am Ruth is a hardback book that has 96 pages of beautiful words and pictures.  It is 9 x9 in size, with the pages being very sturdy for little hands to be able to flip through the pages.  As I mentioned before, it is published by New Leaf Publishing Group, where you can also purchase it from, for $17.99.  You can also buy the digital version for $9.99.  Be sure to watch the video about the book here.  You can also check what other reviewers are saying about I am Ruth, HERE.

N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises ~ review

N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises ~ review

I am so excited about N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises.  This book is by Ken and Mally Ham.  I have heard so much about Ken Ham, and what he believes, but have never read any of his books before.  I was not disappointed in this book and I really think you will like it a lot, as well.

Details on the N is for Noah

N is for Noah: Trusting God and His Promises is a hard back, spiral bound easel book that is 10×10 3/4 in size.  The book is well made and the pages are very sturdy and thick, making it very easy for children to look through on their own.  There are 112 pages of beautiful illustrations that are done by Jeff Albrecht.  The illustrations are bright and vibrant, catching your attention right from the start. Along with the beautiful pages, is a rhyming story that takes your from A-Z about the story of Noah and the Ark. Not only does this book teach your children about trusting God and His promises, it talks about why God sent a world wide flood, how people acted towards Noah while he was building the Ark and what happened when the flood ended.

Not only does this book tell the story of Noah and the Ark in a fun way that the kids will enjoy and understand, it also has structured learning for the kids.  Your kids will be encouraged with Biblical concepts and verses.  This book is shaped in an easel-book format.  On one side is a picture and a rhyming sentence for the child to see), on the other side (for the parent/teacher), you have the rhyming sentence, starting point, Bible bits, Let’s Talk, Always Remember, Stuff to Do and a Quick Review sections for you to read and engage the child with.  In the back of the book, there are sections that help you break down the  “letters” even more.  You have the Overview,  Directed Discussions, Core Truth Takeaway and Quick Review Activity. You can even find downloadable coloring pages for this story at www.nlpg.com/nisfornoah_clrpgs.

My Thoughts On This

While this book is geared towards younger children, I think it is a great read for families.  My kids are 7, 9 and 15 and they all enjoyed it.  Yes, even the 15 year old got something out of it as well.  They liked how they took each letter in the alphabet and rhymed the story.  They loved the illustrations that corresponded with the lessons.  Most of all, I loved that I was able to read the story to the kids and all of us understand a little better about the story of Noah and the Ark.

I also think this book would be great for any Sunday School, Homeschool Co-op class or a family to do during the evenings.   You have little mini lessons on each page that you read.  You could do a page or a couple of pages a day and have a great discussion with your children.

Don’t forget about the Book and Treat Facebook Party coming up tomorrow night, August 27th, 2013.  We will be having it on the Master Books Facebook Page at 8:00pm CDT.  The Treat is Sight and Sound Theaters.  They will be giving out a copy of their show “Noah” to one person.  Other gifts will also be given away.  I hope to see you there!!

Children’s Atlas of God’s World

Children’s Atlas of God’s World

I am so excited to be a part of the Moms of Master Books review team.  On this team, I get the opportunity to review books from an amazing Christian publishing group, New Leaf Publishing Group.  The book for the month of July is Children’s Atlas of God’s World by Craig Froman.  I was so excited after seeing this book on our list to review!

Children's Atlas of God's World.

Children’s Atlas of God’s World.

On the back of the book, it has “One-Of-A-Kind children’s atlas to explore God’s World” and this book really is one of a kind.  The Children’s Atlas of God’s World is a very colorful and vibrant hard-back book, that is HUGE.  It measures approximately 10″x14″!  I told you it was a BIG book!  The pages are heavy paper with a beautiful glossy look to them.  They are very easy to turn and even wipe off, if any messy hands were to flip through the pages.

In this one-of-a-kind book, you will travel through all seven continents.  As you travel through the continents in the book, the author also will talk about many different countries.  Mr. Froman has given you a key in the Table of Contents of things to look for and read through as you read through each section.

  • Christian History and Tradition is marked with a flag with the Cross on it.  This talks about Christian history, people of faith and Christian traditions around the world.
  • Red Pins – when you see a red pin in the book, you will find the number pin on the map marking a landmark, river, or other locations.
  • Green Highlights are words that are just that, highlighted in green.  This is letting you know that it is a city or other sites on the map.
  • UNESCO World Heritage Sites are marked by green flags.  This is sites recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
  • Biomes is the last key to look for.  The Biomes symbol will share about the habitats around the world, including forests, deserts, grasslands, tundra and many more.

What are some other things that you will find in this book?  You will find out the longest rivers and tallest mountains.  You will read about Christian explorers, missionaries and many others who made a mark in history.  The book tells of the diversity of God’s creatures, natural habitats and the animals and plants that live in them.  There are outline maps of the continents and more detailed maps of the countries that are being focused on.  Every page that you turn, you will learn something new about the world that God created!

Our family has really enjoyed this book since we received it.  I love seeing the kids reading the book, wanting to learn more about the world we live in.  I think it is a great addition to our growing library.  This book will also come in handy when we begin our geography lessons for the upcoming school year.  This book has definitely quickly become a favorite in our home.

Would you like a book of your own?  You can buy it from New Leaf Publishing Group for $18.99 or you can buy the digital download for $9.99.  Or better yet?  How about a chance to win a copy of the book!  Join us for the Book and a Treat Party!  There will be some wonderful prizes being given.  The Facebook Party will be happening on Tuesday, July 23rd at 8pm (CDT).
